Codex Rosae Crucis

D.O.M.A.

1938 first edition

A Rare & Curious Manuscript of Rosicrucian Interest, Now Published for the First Time in Its Original Form.

Rare and valuable Rosicrucian material, very rare in superb first edition.

Elephant folio, all illustrations present and intact. Printed onto fine laid paper sewn, oversize boards, burgundy canvas buckram, titles gilt, Rose Cross design gilt to front board, 113pp printed in colour with large colour plates, large fold-out plate to centre. Text translated with introduction by manly P. Hall, original manuscript reproduced on facing pages.

It comprises a series of informative essays on Rosicrucian texts by Hall, along with a along with a facsimile text and translation of the important eighteenth century German “D.O.M.A. manuscript” entitled “Codex Rosae Crucis.” Hall observed that the work combined all the Rosicrucian interests of “Alchemy, hermetic philosophy, mystic Christianity, cabalism and ceremonial magic, ontology and cosmogony, Pythagorean and Platonic numerology, Gnostic Christianity, classical pagan mythology, medicine and pharmacology, and comparative religion,” suggesting that the mysterious acronym D.O.M.A. might stand for “Deo Optimo Maximo Altissimo.”

Very good copy in fine original dark red canvas, very rare first edition with beautiful coloration.
