LUDOVICO MARIA SINISTRARI
Peccatum Mutum
The Mute Sin
alias
S O D O M Y
published in English by Isidore Liseux, Paris 1893
Small format duodecimo 76pp, very rare in original printed paper wraps, pages uncut.
Perhaps Aleister Crowley and Montague Summers favorite publisher, the Parisian Isidore Liseux produced numerous obscene works many of which (like this example) were banned by the authorities and copies were seized and destroyed.
The treatise by the learned priest of Ameno, Father Sinistrari (17th century), dealing with the act of ‘sodomia’ or sodomy as it relates specifically to witchcraft is one of the more curious works of the late inquisition period.
Detailing and describing the witches intercourse with their familiars and demons, Sinistrari specifies the exact nature of each offence in detail.
A rare and very important work in the history of witchcraft persecution.
